Synopsis:
I am the Director of the Spanish Language Program for the Department
of Romance Languages. I hold a BA in Spanish, an MA in Spanish Literature,
and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, all from the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to entering graduate school,
I taught in the public schools for six years. After completing my
doctoral studies, I was Coordinator of the Spanish Language Program
in the Department of Romance Studies, Duke University, for three years.
I joined the Chapel Hill faculty in 1994. I teach several undergraduate
courses in Spanish as well as team-teach the graduate course on methods
in foreign language teaching. I have also given numerous presentations
and delivered papers at state, regional, national, and international
conferences, primarily on topics related to foreign language education.
Among other publications, I co-authored an instructional anthology,
Tapices literarios: Stories for building language skills and cultural
awareness, and ¡Atrévete!, a textbook program for beginning
Spanish students. University service includes membership on the General
Education Curriculum Implementation Committee and the Phillips Travel
Award Committee, serving as Faculty Mentor for the Johnston Scholars
Program, and chairing the Faculty Advisory Committee for Academic
Support for Student Athletes. Among my greatest honors to date are
the Students' Undergraduate Award for Excellence in Teaching, 1996,
and the Romance Languages Graduate Student Faculty Mentor Award, 2003. |
