Synopsis:
Catherine A. Maley is Professor Emerita of French and Romance Linguistics at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and has been President of the Institut Français de Washington (www.unc.edu/depts/institut) since 1992. She was former Director of the UNC Year and Semester programs in Montpellier, France, and former Associate Dean of the Graduate School. Courses taught: Structure of Modern French, French Phonetics and Phonology, History of the French Language, Comparative Romance Linguistics. She is the author of The Pronouns of Address in Modern Standard French (1974); Hablemos Temas contemporaneos para conversar o escribir (with M.A. Salgado) (1976): Dans le vent (4 editions: 1980, 1985, 1990, 1999); and co-editor (with L.D.King) of the Proceedings of the XIII Annual Linguistic Symposium on Romance Languages (1985).
